A leukotriene receptor antagonist intended for both prevention and treatment of asthma, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, as well as exercise-induced bronchospasm. Helps relieve inflammation, facilitates breathing, and relieves allergy symptoms.

Indications

• Prevention and treatment of asthma
• Symptom relief for seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
• Symptom relief for perennial allergic rhinitis
• Prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm
• Complementary use in poorly controlled asthma requiring additional therapy alongside inhaled corticosteroids

Montelukast sodium 10 mg (each tablet)

Precautions

• Not indicated for treating acute asthma; keep rescue drug on hand
• Use with caution if patient suffers from:
  • Psychiatric diseases (depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation)
  • Impaired liver function (liver tests should be performed)
  • Phenylketonuria (aspartame is present in chewable tablets)
• Do not suddenly stop corticosteroid therapy
• Use during pregnancy and lactation is allowed if medically recommended
• Monitoring is required if asthma condition worsens

How to Use

• 1 tablet once daily in the evening; adult dose is 10 mg
• Can be taken either with or without food
• For exercise-induced bronchospasm – 2 hours prior to physical activity
• Take regularly regardless of symptom improvement
• Do not exceed daily allowance
